Truro’s saddest stray dog has finally found a happy ending

Some strays pass through a city unnoticed. This one didn’t. For weeks earlier this summer, people walking through Truro kept spotting the same dog wandering alone, clearly unhappy, and clearly not okay.

A familiar, worrying sight around Truro

The dog, a sad-looking shar pei cross, became a regular talking point among people in the city over the summer. Sightings were shared widely on social media, with worried residents flagging the animal to officers.

How the dog ended up in police hands

Once it was brought to their attention, officers used their powers to seize the dog. Its owner was separately remanded into custody in connection with offences unrelated to the animal, and while he was inside, police took legal ownership of the dog.

Surgery, a new start, and a fresh chapter

Since then the shar pei cross has undergone surgery at a local vets and been signed over to the RSPCA. The dog has now been moved out of the county and is ready to be rehomed, with what officers at Devon and Cornwall Police are calling a much happier chapter ahead.
