Falmouth’s New Choir Wants You – No Auditions, No Experience Needed
A brand new community choir has launched in Falmouth, and it’s throwing its doors open to absolutely anyone who fancies a sing.
Falmouth Chorus is a newly formed group led by Music Director Martin Palmer and pianist Ruth Best, and the message from those involved is simple: come along, open your mouth, and sing.
No pressure, no auditions
One of the biggest draws for anyone who has ever talked themselves out of joining a choir is that there are no auditions. You simply turn up. The group meets every Friday during term times from 1.00pm to 3.00pm at Emmanuel Baptist Church on Western Terrace in Falmouth, and your first session is completely free.
After that, there is a small charge to attend, which organisers say will be kept as low as possible.
What to expect
The repertoire is deliberately broad, taking in contemporary, classical, pop, gospel, rock and Renaissance music. The focus, though, is less on polish and more on enjoyment, with the group described as singing “just for the fun of it” alongside the social benefits of joining voices with like-minded people.
A tea break is built into each session, adding to what organisers describe as a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. End of term performances give members a chance to mark their progress and celebrate new friendships.
Beginners welcome
For anyone feeling nervous about walking into a room full of singers for the first time, the group is keen to reassure that new faces are always made to feel welcome. Existing members who have been through that same experience are on hand to help newcomers find their feet.
Friends of any age and singing ability are encouraged to come along too.
