Newquay’s Barrowfields is after a few pairs of hands
You do not need to know your way around a flower bed to lend a hand at the Barrowfields on Thursday 20 August. Cormac‘s volunteer gardening group is spending the morning in Newquay, and it will take anyone who fancies a couple of hours outdoors. No experience, no tools of your own, just turn up.

A morning of gardening, come and go as you please
The session runs from 10am to 1pm. Cormac says no experience is needed and all the equipment is provided, so there is nothing to buy or bring on the tools front. You are free to join for as much or as little of the three hours as you can manage, rather than committing to the whole stint. It is billed as a community event, with everyone welcome.
Where to meet
The meeting point is behind the middle bus stop at the Barrowfields. Anyone coming along is asked to wear sturdy footwear and clothing suitable for gardening and the weather, and to bring any drinks or food they might want during the session.
How to get involved
The Barrowfields morning is part of a wider Cormac scheme called Community Gardening in Cornish towns, which puts on volunteer sessions in towns around the county. The Newquay session was shared locally by Newquay Town Council on behalf of Cormac.
Anyone who wants to know more, or to say they are planning to come, can contact Kelly, Cormac’s Urban Ranger, by email at [email protected] or by phone on 07736 624543. Information about the county’s parks and green spaces sits on Cornwall Council’s parks pages.
