Treviglas Sixth Form Students Crowned County Winners in Young Enterprise Competition

What happens when a group of Year 13 students balance A-level revision with running an actual company? At Treviglas Sixth Form, the answer is a county title and a trip to Taunton.

Key To Cornwall, a student-led company formed by Year 13 Business students at Treviglas Sixth Form, has been named county winner in this year’s Young Enterprise Company Programme.

A business with a Cornish purpose

The team has spent the academic year applying classroom theory to real-world challenges, building their company from concept through to execution as part of the nationally recognised programme.

Key To Cornwall was set up with a clear social purpose. The company aims to build a community for young people to explore Cornwall, encouraging them to visit local spots and support independent businesses in a way that is both accessible and affordable.

The students were supported by Laura Ford, Learning Leader for Year 11 and Careers Lead at Treviglas, alongside business mentor Sarah Cotton from SUEZ.

Three awards at the Cornwall Showcase

The Cornwall Showcase event, held before Easter, put the team up against students from Truro College and a range of local secondary schools.

Competitors were asked to host a trade stand, sit interviews with judges, produce a detailed business plan, and deliver a formal business pitch. It made for a long and demanding day.

Treviglas walked away with the overall county title, plus awards for Best Customer Service and Best Use of Technology.

Next stop, Taunton

Since the showcase, the students have been working through detailed feedback from the judges as they prepare for the next round. Key To Cornwall will represent Cornwall at the regional finals in Taunton on Tuesday 5th May.

All of this has run alongside A-level exam preparation, which makes the result more impressive given everything else competing for the students’ attention this term.
