Coastguard Called to Cyclist Fall on Camel Trail

A cyclist was left with leg and facial injuries after coming off their bike on one of Cornwall’s most popular traffic-free routes.

HM Coastguard Padstow was tasked to The Quarry on the Camel Trail at 2.09pm on Monday 4th May after reports of a casualty who had fallen from their bicycle.

When the team arrived they found the cyclist already being looked after by an off-duty paramedic and a member of the public who had stopped to help.

Coastguard officers followed their Casualty Care First Aid procedures and worked alongside the off-duty paramedic until the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust crew arrived.

Paramedics gave the casualty pain relief at the scene. Once they were stable, the coastguard team carried the cyclist and helped transfer them into the ambulance.

The team was stood down once the casualty was in the care of paramedics, and returned to base.

The Camel Trail runs for around 18 miles between Padstow, Wadebridge, Bodmin and Wenfordbridge, following the route of a former railway line. The Quarry section sits on the stretch between Padstow and Wadebridge.
