Dog Falls From Cliffs at Mother Ivey’s Bay as Coastguard Launch Search

HM Coastguard Padstow was tasked to an incident at Mother Ivey’s Bay on Sunday 15th March after reports that a dog had fallen from the cliffs into the water.

The call came in at 13:11, prompting a response from the team for public safety reasons while a search for the missing dog was carried out.

Teams Search Cliff Edge, Beach and Sea

Once on scene, the owner of the dog was located and the team established several edge safety set-ups in the immediate area. This allowed members of the coastguard team to safely approach the cliff edge and search for the dog below.

A small team was also deployed to the beach to search along the shoreline and out to sea.

Padstow Lifeboat crew were placed on standby in case their assistance was needed, but they were later stood down.

Dog Sadly Believed to Be Deceased

After carrying out what was described as a very thorough search of the area, the team concluded that the dog was sadly deceased and could not be located at that time.

Coastguard Issues Cliff Safety Reminder

Following the incident, the coastguard shared several reminders to help keep people and their pets safe near cliffs:

• Keep dogs on a lead near cliffs

• Stay well back from the edge yourself

• Call 999 and ask for the Coastguard if your dog gets into trouble

They also noted that most dogs make it back to safety on their own, but warned that owners should avoid putting themselves in danger while trying to help.

The coastguard added a final message to the public: “Stay safe.”
