In pictures: Penzance’s Jubilee Pool goes to the dogs for a day
Once a year, the swimmers at Jubilee Pool swap goggles for tennis balls. And most of them turn up on four legs.
Jubilee Pool held its much-anticipated annual Dog Day on Sunday (1 November), handing the water over to swimmers’ best friends at the iconic Art Deco lido in Penzance.

Eight years of Dog Day
The four-legged fun day is now in its eighth year, and plenty of pups took the plunge.
With the sun shining on the doggy paddle paradise, most dogs didn’t need asking twice and jumped straight in. Others took a little longer, needing some gentle persuasion from their wetsuit-clad humans.
Council backing for the pool
Penzance Council has been a long-term supporter of the pool as a community facility. It has once again allocated £40,000 of funding for this financial year.
The money will help towards:
- the costs of Jubilee Pool’s winter maintenance
- subsidised entry for adults living in the parish
- keeping the PZ Under 16s Free Swim scheme going, which gives all under 16s in the Penzance Parish free access to Jubilee Pool
