Longrock Road Resurfacing Near Penzance: Closures From 22nd June

A stretch of road through Longrock will shut to through traffic from later this month, with a daily closure running for nearly a fortnight while the surface is replaced.

Cornwall Council, through its highways company CORMAC, is resurfacing the road between the junctions at Trescoe Road and Tolverth Road. The work starts on Monday 22 June and is scheduled to run until Thursday 3 July, on weekdays only.

When the road will be closed

A temporary road closure will be in place each working day between 7.30am and 5pm, Monday to Friday. The road will re-open every day at 5pm. Diversion routes will be signed around the closure, and the council has flagged that the schedule may change once work begins, particularly if the weather turns.

Getting around during the works

Traffic marshals will be on site every day to help residents, businesses, deliveries and service providers find their way through. The council says access will be maintained wherever it is safe to do so, and that no one will be deliberately stopped from reaching their home or place of work. Drivers are asked to follow the signed routes and allow extra time for journeys in case of delays.

A Clearway, and a warning about parking

A Clearway order will be in force within the closure area during working hours. That means no parking between 7.30am and 5pm, Monday to Friday. Any vehicle left inside the closure zone will be towed to allow the work to continue, and the cost of towing and recovery will fall to the owner. Residents, businesses and visitors are asked to make alternative parking arrangements during the works.

Bus stops moving

The two bus stops inside the closure area will be out of service while the work is going on. A replacement stop will be set up within the nearby industrial estate and signposted on site. Transport for Cornwall has up-to-date information at transportforcornwall.co.uk.

What the work involves

The job runs through several stages. Crews will plane off the old surface, adjust manholes, drains and service covers, repair any weak areas of the road base, then lay a new binder layer followed by the final tarmac surface. Once that has cooled and set, new road markings go down.

Until the work is finished, the surface will be temporarily uneven where the old layer has been removed, and manholes and service boxes will sit raised above it. Machinery and vehicles will be stored within the closure area between 7.30am and 5pm.
