Spend a summer’s day with rescue animals at RSPCA Cornwall

The rescue animals waiting for new homes at RSPCA Cornwall have some younger company lined up this summer, and there is still time to be part of it.

The RSPCA Cornwall Branch is running two holiday programmes at its rescue and rehoming centre, and while its Animal Allies sessions for 12 to 15 year olds have now sold out, spaces remain on the Summer Club for younger children and the Work Ready scheme for teenagers.

Summer Club for ages 8 to 11

The Summer Club is built around a full day of animal-themed fun. Children spend the time on activities, arts, crafts and games, explore the centre’s wildlife garden and make new friends. They might even spot some of the rescue animals in the charity’s care.

Sessions run from 27 July to 2 September on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9am to 3pm, at RSPCA Cornwall, TR9 6JS. Each place costs £40.

Work Ready for ages 16 to 18

Work Ready is aimed at older teenagers thinking about a future in animal care. It offers hands-on experience at a working animal rehabilitation and rehoming centre, with participants shadowing the animal care team, developing workplace skills and exploring careers in the sector. The branch says it is a chance to boost a CV and strengthen a UCAS application while doing something useful.

Work Ready runs on Fridays from 31 July to 28 August, 10am to 2pm, also at RSPCA Cornwall, TR9 6JS. Places are £50 each.

Where the money goes

RSPCA Cornwall is a self-funded local charity, which means every booking feeds straight back into the animals it looks after. The fees help cover food, shelter, veterinary treatment and everything else the rescue animals need while they wait for their forever homes.
