What happened outside the school
The Devon & Cornwall Police Road Safety Team visited St Columb Major on Monday morning (5 October) and monitored traffic in the 20 mph limit outside the primary school and nursery.
Officers were there between 7.45am and 9am. That is an hour and a quarter, covering the time children and families arrive for the start of the day.
20 vehicles over the threshold
In that time, 20 vehicles were found to be exceeding the speed enforcement threshold as they passed the school.
The team said those drivers “will be receiving notices of impending prosecution in the next few days”.
What drivers are being asked to do
The message from the Road Safety Team is a short one.
“Please comply with the speed limits wherever you are, but particularly around schools,” the team said.
The 20 mph limit applies on the road outside the school and nursery, which sits beside the A3059 towards Newquay.
