03/02/2026 – Weather in Cornwall – Yellow Weather Warning For Rain
Flooding Risk Grows as Heavy Rain Hits Tonight
A yellow weather warning for rain has been issued by the Met Office, covering the period from 6pm on Monday 2nd February through to 9pm today, Tuesday 3rd February.
Further rainfall through Monday evening and into Tuesday could lead to some flooding and disruption in places, particularly as ground conditions are already saturated following recent rain.
What could happen
The Met Office says there is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded, which may cause damage to some buildings. There is also a small chance of fast flowing or deep floodwater posing a danger to life.
Where flooding occurs, there is a slight chance of delays or cancellations to train and bus services. Spray and standing water could make driving conditions difficult, with some road closures possible. In some areas, flooded roads could leave communities cut off.
There is also a slight chance of power cuts and the loss of other services affecting some homes and businesses.
Rainfall outlook
Outbreaks of rain are expected to become more persistent later on Monday, especially overnight, before gradually clearing during Tuesday. Some areas, particularly the north east of the warning zone, may not see conditions improve until Tuesday evening.
Rainfall totals of 10 to 20mm are possible across a wide area, with higher totals of 40 to 60mm over Dartmoor. With the ground already saturated, this increases the risk of flooding and disruption.
What people are advised to do
People are advised to check whether their property is at risk of flooding and, if so, consider preparing a flood plan and an emergency flood kit.
Drivers are encouraged to check road conditions before travelling, while those using public transport should keep an eye on bus and train timetables and adjust travel plans if needed.
The Met Office also advises preparing for possible power cuts by having torches, spare batteries, a mobile phone power pack and other essential items ready.
Weather warnings can change quickly, and people are advised to stay up to date with the latest local forecast.
Why the warning is yellow
The yellow warning reflects a very low likelihood of impacts, but with the potential for medium disruption where flooding does occur.
Rain Clears But Showers Linger as Grey Week Ahead
A mixed spell of weather is forecast across South West England from today, Tuesday 3rd February, through to Saturday 7th February, with rain giving way to showers and a generally dull outlook.

Today begins wet and dull as rain moves northwards across the region. Through the afternoon, drier and potentially brighter spells are expected to push in from the south west, although showers will follow. It will be breezy at first, with winds easing as the day goes on. Temperatures will feel rather cold away from the far south west, where conditions will be milder. The maximum temperature is expected to reach around 10°C.
Tonight: Fog Patches and Showers
This evening and overnight, conditions are expected to turn murky in places, with low cloud and fog patches forming mainly in the east. Elsewhere, there will be a mix of clear spells and showers. It will remain frost free, with minimum temperatures around 4°C.
Wednesday: Bright Spells and Heavy Showers
After any fog clears on Wednesday, there should be a few bright spells at times, although areas of cloud are likely to linger. Scattered showers are expected, some of which could be heavy and possibly accompanied by hail. Temperatures will be milder across all areas, with highs of around 10°C.

From Thursday through to Saturday, the weather is set to remain rather dull, with limited brighter spells giving a cool feel overall. While there will be some drier moments, there is an ongoing chance of outbreaks of rain. It will be breezy at times as the week goes on.
