Penzance Wrestling Star Inducted Into Hall of Fame in New York
A professional wrestling legend from Cornwall has been recognised on the international stage after being inducted into the Women’s Wrestling Hall of Fame.
Julia Hammer, better known as Sweet Saraya, was officially inducted as part of the 2026 class at The Big Event in Brentwood, New York on 21st March 2026.

From Penzance to the World Stage
Julia Hammer, originally from Penzance, began her wrestling career after being trained by Ricky Knight. She made her debut in 1990 and has continued to wrestle ever since.
She is also known for co-training her daughter Saraya, also known as Paige, who became the youngest female to win a wrestling title in WWE.
Hall of Fame Recognition
The Women’s Wrestling Hall of Fame inducted its remaining 2026 class during the event, which included Gail Kim and Melina Perez alongside Julia.
Before the induction ceremony, co-founders Gary Wolf and Christopher Annino honoured Julia by naming her an honorary Pitbull. The recognition was given for her durability in the ring and for mentoring others outside of it.
Her Hall of Fame plaque was presented by Bronwyne Jewel Billington, daughter of Dynamite Kid.
The ceremony also featured a special guest appearance from Lisa Marie Varon, a former WWE and TNA champion and previous Hall of Fame inductee.
Other Inductees and Awards
Other names included in the 2026 Hall of Fame class were Mercedes Martinez, Debbie Malenko, Jasmin St. Clair, Linda Dallas, Mickie Knuckles, Missy Sampson, Penelope Paradise, Carmela Foss and Japanese legend Mimi Hagiwara.
Olympians Natalia Vorobieva and Pang Qianyu were also among those recognised.
A new celebrity category was introduced this year, with Laurene Landon, star of the film All the Marbles, set to be inducted after training for the role with Mildred Burke.
Awards presented by the Women’s Wrestling Hall of Fame included:
- Women’s Wrestler of the Year: Teal Piper
- Susan Tex Green Award: Masha Slamovich
- Rookie of the Year: Zenith Zion
- Missy Sampson Award: Tommy Fierro
- Most Improved Wrestler: Nahir Robles
- Best All-Around Athlete: Jessica Roden
- Courage Award: Angel Metro
The event was supported by a number of organisations and individuals, including Florida All Star Wrestling and Veteran Pro Wrestling.
