Camborne Home Sealed Shut After Months of Fear and Violence

A property on Parc an Tansys in Camborne has been issued with a full closure order, making it a criminal offence for anyone to enter the address for the next three months.

The order was granted by the Magistrates Court on Wednesday 15th April, following months of antisocial behaviour, suspected drug use and violence linked to the address.

Why the Order Was Issued

The closure order was the result of a joint investigation involving Cornwall Council’s antisocial behaviour officer, the Camborne neighbourhood police team and Devon and Cornwall Police’s Legal team.

Inspector Lou Brown said the behaviour had caused significant distress to people living nearby.

“The ASB happening in and around the property was unsettling and the cause of worry for many in the area,” Lou said.

“It’s hard to grasp just quite how much behaviour like this can impact and disrupt the daily lives and wellbeing of so many, so it was important we took action.

“Obtaining closure orders is never our first course of action. We always look at other options available to us to help stop the behaviour, but in this case, the closure order was a necessary step to safeguard local residents.”

A Last Resort

Kay Smith, ASB officer for Camborne, said that agencies had tried to work with the tenant before pursuing a closure order.

“This property and the behaviour associated with it has been a blight on the other residents within this road for some months now,” Kay said.

“We have been working with various partner agencies to attempt to support the tenant to resolve the issues being experienced, unfortunately this wasn’t successful and, as such, we had no option other than to apply for a full closure which was granted by the courts.”

Tenants affected by the order have been signposted to support services.

What Happens Next

Anyone who does not comply with the order faces criminal prosecution. Officers will continue to carry out targeted patrols and operations in the area as part of a wider strategy to tackle antisocial behaviour and crime.

Lou added: “We are pleased that the Magistrates Court have granted the full closure order for the property – we believe this is a really positive result that will improve the lives of local residents.”

Kay echoed that sentiment: “Hopefully this action will bring much needed peace to the area allowing other residents to enjoy their homes without constant disturbance and fear of violence.”
