Pink Wig Mermaid March returns to Falmouth on 7 August

Falmouth is about to go pink. There’s one month to go until the Pink Wig Mermaid March, the annual parade that fills the town with colour in support of breast cancer care in Cornwall. This year it lands on Friday 7 August, and the format runs from a waterfront reception through the streets of Falmouth to a silent disco under the Falmouth Week marquee.

A parade in pink

The march raises money for The Mermaid Centre, Cornwall’s dedicated breast cancer unit at Royal Cornwall Hospital. All funds raised go straight to the centre. For 2026 the organisers have opened the event up to everyone who wants to take part, whether you march in memory of someone or in support of people going through treatment now.

The dress code is pink, and it stretches as far as you want to take it. Wigs are the starting point. Beyond that, organisers are inviting disco mermaids, retro mermaids, pirate mermaids, boho, rock’n’roll, punk and even masquerade mermaids.

The event is sponsored by Watson-Marlow Fluid Technology Solutions and Nevada Construction.

The evening in Falmouth

Pre-event reception

The Greenbank Hotel is hosting the pre-event get together again this year, on the waterfront, with light refreshments before the march sets off. The hotel is donating from all reception sales to The Mermaid Centre.

The march

The parade leaves The Greenbank Hotel at 7pm and moves through the streets of Falmouth.

Silent disco

The march finishes at the Falmouth Week Event Marquee, where a silent disco takes over, powered by DeluxX DJs. Ticket holders get LED headphones with three DJ channels to choose from, each playing a different set.

Entry to the marquee and silent disco is for over 18s only. All ticket holders need to be 18 or over.

Raffle

There’s a raffle on the night with prizes to be won. Tickets are available on the day.

Where the money goes

Funds from the march go towards the things the NHS budget doesn’t cover, from equipment and staff training to new buildings, along with the smaller extras that lift spirits for patients, families and staff at the centre.

How to get tickets

Tickets are on sale now. You can book your place for the Pink Wig Mermaid March through Royal Cornwall Hospitals Charity. If you can’t make it on the night, the charity is asking people to consider a donation to the Mermaid Centre Fund instead.
