Only one of 29 St Austell ladies knew Cornwall Search Dogs

Twenty-nine women turned up to a St Austell Inner Wheel meeting this week for a talk on search dogs, and only one of them had heard of the charity before Louise stood up to speak.

A last-minute stand-in

Louise from Cornwall Search Dogs stepped in at the last minute to represent the team at the St Austell Inner Wheel meeting last Tuesday (1 September). Spreading the word about the charity is a core part of what the team does, alongside the search work itself, and a room where 28 out of 29 people had never come across Cornwall Search Dogs was exactly the kind of audience a talk like that is aimed at.

What Louise covered

Louise talked the group through how the team works and how it uses its dogs to search for missing dogs, as well as what trailing actually involves. She also covered the sorts of callouts the team attends, giving the Inner Wheel members a sense of the range of work behind the charity’s name.

Why the talks matter

Search work is obviously a huge part of what Cornwall Search Dogs does, but talks like this one matter too. The more people who know the charity exists, understand what its dogs are trained to do and know how it can help, the better.

Cornwall Search Dogs thanked St Austell Inner Wheel for the invitation, and Louise for stepping in to represent the team at the last minute. Twenty-eight more people in the town now know exactly who to call.
