Cornish Birds of Prey Centre hits 150 monthly supporters

A pound a month doesn’t sound like much on its own. Multiply it by 150 people, though, and it adds up to a permanent new source of income for a Cornwall rescue centre that relies entirely on visitors and donors to keep going.

The £1-a-month appeal that took off

The Cornish Birds of Prey Centre, based at Winnard’s Perch near St Columb Major, put out a call asking supporters to spare just £1 a month towards the ongoing care of its rescued birds and animals. The response has taken the Centre to its first 150 monthly supporters, which now brings in £150 every month towards the animals’ care.

The Centre says it was “blown away” by the response, and thanked everyone who signed up, shared the post or tagged a friend to help spread the word.

Small sums, added together

The appeal leans on the idea that a single pound doesn’t need to feel like a big ask to make a real difference once enough people join in. The Cornwall charity cares for rescued and unwanted birds of prey alongside other animals, and funds the work through visitor admission, sponsorship and donations rather than breeding or selling birds to raise money.

Having reached its first milestone, the Centre isn’t stopping there. The next goal is 250 monthly supporters, doubling the current total and taking the monthly income for the animals’ care up again.

Supporters can sign up for the £1 monthly donation through the Centre’s PayPal donation page, making sure to tick “Make this a monthly donation” when they do.
