What Non-School Uniform Day is asking of Cornwall’s schools

Royal Cornwall Hospitals Charity is calling on every school in Cornwall to take part in its Non-School Uniform Day on Friday 25 September, raising money for the Children’s Cancer Unit Fund during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. The charity is asking families to get their local school signed up to support young people facing cancer in the county.

Pupils can simply wear their own clothes in return for a small donation. Schools that want to do more can turn the day into a sponsored challenge, a fun activity or a fundraising event of their own design.

Where last year’s donations went

Cornwall’s schools have form for this. Last year they raised £15,000 between them, money that went on the kind of extras that don’t come out of a standard treatment budget: trips, music therapy, sibling support, family refreshments, gaming equipment and toys for children and families going through cancer treatment.

According to the charity, every pound raised helps bring comfort, smiles and special memories during some of the toughest times in a child’s life.

How to get your school involved

Schools can register for Non-School Uniform Day directly with Royal Cornwall Hospitals Charity, whether they’re planning a simple own-clothes day or something bigger.

How much this year’s swapped ties and borrowed trainers add up to won’t be known until the last odd sock is counted after 25 September.
