Water Lane in Hayle set to shut for roadworks in December

If Water Lane is part of your daily drive, you may want to plan a different route for the run-up to Christmas.

Plans have been put forward to close the road in Hayle for almost two weeks in December so the road surface can be repaired. The notice was shared by Hayle Town Council on behalf of Cornwall Council’s Street Works team.

When Water Lane will be closed

The closure is planned from Monday 7 December to Friday 18 December 2026, between 07:30 and 17:00 each day.

It would be made under Section 14 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, which lets councils close roads for a short time while work is carried out on the highway.

The work is being done by Cormac Solutions Ltd, and the listing on the roadworks map describes it as “works to repair existing carriageway surface”.

Not confirmed yet

This is an intention notice at this stage, and an order has not been issued yet.

Cornwall Council asks for any feedback within fourteen days of the notice being sent out, so there is a short window for anyone who has concerns about the timing to raise them.

The diversion route

The published map shows a signed diversion running along the B3302 Mellanear Road and Foundry Hill into the town centre, then out along the B3301 Carnsew Road and back down Chenhalls Road to the western end of Water Lane.
