Bodmin litter pickers find a hoover, a toy shark and a pair of pants
Somewhere in Bodmin, someone is missing a pair of pants. They turned up in a pile of rubbish collected by volunteers this week, alongside a hoover, a toy shark and two fire extinguishers.
The haul came from the latest outing by the Bodmin Tidy it Team, a group of volunteers who head out regularly to clear litter from the town’s streets and verges. This time, with half term on, they had some younger helpers too.

Spreading out from Sainsbury’s
The team set off from Sainsbury’s and fanned out across the area. And one road gave them the same problem it always does.
“So many wine and lager bottles along Scarlett’s Well Road, always the same,” the group said.
By the end of the session they had filled 18 bags of rubbish and 15 bags of recycling. That was before the larger items were counted.
What they found
The list of oddities reads like a car boot sale gone wrong:
- 2 fire extinguishers
- A traffic cone
- A tyre
- A wire basket
- Plastic buckets and pots
- A fishing net
- A pan stand
- A hoover
- A basketball
- A toy shark
- A for sale sign
- Vapes and other items
The strangest find of the day, according to the group, was that pair of pants.
The session brings the team’s running total to 1,191.
New faces and young helpers
Peter joined the group for the first time and found it very rewarding. The team also said it was lovely to have children helping again over half term, enthusiastically finding rubbish.
The group thanked everyone who took part: Anne, Mandy, Nat, Ezra, Penny, Lucas, Lowen, Coby, Trish, Sue, Paul, Gary, Tom, Theresa, Max, Debs, Andy V, Andy D, Nigel, Peter and Jeremy. They also thanked Clean Cornwall and Biffa for their support.
