Last month it was a coastal path between Marazion and Mousehole. This Saturday the route is rather longer, and it runs straight through the middle of Westminster.

From a Cornish coast walk to the capital

After the “Rejoin Ramble” from Marazion to Mousehole on 10 May, which CornishStuff covered at the time, Cornwall for Europe are heading to London on Saturday 20 June for the National Rejoin March IV.

A coach of supporters will travel up from across Cornwall, with some seats still available. Other members are making their own way to the capital and will meet the group there.

The route through Westminster

The march starts on Victoria Embankment, crosses Waterloo and Westminster bridges and finishes in Parliament Square. A rally and speeches will follow.

The speakers

Eleven speakers are confirmed so far, with more likely to be added before the day. The line-up includes Neil Kinnock, Mike Galsworthy, Femi Oluwole, Terry Reintke MEP, Richard Corbett and Steve Bray.

Why the group says it matters

Cornwall for Europe describe the marches as serious in purpose, but say the atmosphere is what keeps people coming back. Their words paint a picture of positive, caring people joining together around one shared aim, returning to what they call their home within the European Union.

The group believe this year’s march matters more than ever. They want to encourage the government to keep moving towards a closer relationship with the EU, and to show that support for unity, compassion and being a functioning part of the European continent outweighs those who argue for hate and division.

More speakers are expected to be confirmed before the coach pulls out of Cornwall on Saturday morning.
