50p toilet charge coming to Trevaunance Cove in St Agnes

Nipping into the toilets at Trevaunance Cove is about to cost something for the first time, though the trade-off is a loo that never locks its doors.

A 50p charge from Monday 24 August

From Monday 24 August, a 50p charge will apply to use the public toilets at Trevaunance Cove, in the parish of St Agnes. St Agnes Parish Council says it is committed to keeping the facilities open, clean, safe and available to both residents and the many visitors who arrive at the cove each year.

The cost of providing public toilets, including cleaning, water, electricity, waste disposal, maintenance and repairs, continues to rise, and the council says a small charge means everyone who uses the facilities can contribute towards their upkeep.

Where the money goes

The income raised will be reinvested into the toilet service, the parish council says, helping to ensure the increasing running costs are not added to the parish precept and passed on to local households through Council Tax.

The new system will also allow the toilets to remain open 24 hours a day, giving genuine users greater access while helping to discourage vandalism and antisocial behaviour.

How to pay, and who gets in free

Entry will cost 50p, payable by contactless card or a smart payment method. Cash will not be accepted.

Parish residents can buy a £10 lifetime Residents’ Card, giving unlimited access to public toilets in the parish that use the payment system. Cards are available from the Parish Council offices with proof of address.

RADAR key holders will continue to have free access to the accessible facilities.

Every 50p, the parish council says, goes towards protecting the service and keeping the toilets at Trevaunance Cove open, clean and welcoming for everyone.
