What a day’s birdwatching at Ruan Lanihorne turned up

The sun was out and so were the birds. Sixteen nature and wildlife enthusiasts spent a glorious, warm day on the Roseland Peninsula, and they came away with a tally worth talking about.

A morning on the Roseland

The birdwatching trip took the group to Ruan Lanihorne, one of the quieter corners of the Roseland. Before anyone reached for their binoculars there was time for a proper catch-up over coffee, tea, and biscuits.

The event was organised by Rowena Castillo-Nicholls, founder and chair of Connect with Nature, RSPB Kernow Group Leader, and Publicity Officer of Cornwall Birds. Rob Nicholls was the field trip leader.

What they spotted

Ruan Lanihorne did not disappoint. The group recorded 35 species of birds there, along with 8 species of butterflies.

From there they headed off on a side trip to Kiberick Cove, where they added another 15 species of birds and 5 species of butterflies to the day’s list.

Two locations, one sunny day, and plenty for the group to talk about on the way home.
