Military Road to close between Freathy and Rame for three weeks

If your route across the Rame peninsula normally follows the cliffs above Whitsand Bay, it’s about to disappear under roadworks for most of the rest of September.

What’s happening, and when

South West Water is starting work on the water main along Military Road from Monday 14 September, expected to last up to three weeks. For that period the road will be closed to all traffic, under permit LM400KR40046465.

The letters have already gone out to properties and businesses directly affected, but South West Water has asked Millbrook Parish Council to help spread the word further, since the closure will push traffic onto other roads well beyond the immediate stretch of Military Road itself.

The diversion route

A signed diversion will run for the length of the closure to route traffic around the affected section. On the map shared by the parish council, the closure point sits on Military Road between Freathy and Rame, marked in red, with the diversion route marked in blue running via the B3247 through Millbrook.

Why it’s worth knowing even if you’re nowhere near it

Military Road links Freathy, Whitsand Bay and Rame with Millbrook, Cawsand and Kingsand, so a three-week closure has knock-on effects for anyone crossing the peninsula, not just residents on that stretch. South West Water’s message is aimed squarely at drivers who wouldn’t normally think to check, before they find themselves following a diversion sign they weren’t expecting.
