81 entries, 81 passes for Launceston College’s ARB students

Eighty-one exam and coursework entries went in this year. Eighty-one came back as passes.

That is the tally for students at the Alternative Resource Base (ARB) at Launceston College, where every Year 11 leaver has also come away with formal qualifications.

A spread of subjects

The passes cover a wide range. English, maths, science and IT sit alongside WorkSkills, humanities, Pre-Vocational Studies and the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.

And one student picked up a Grade 8 in GCSE Art.

More than the certificates

The college says the gains go well beyond the results sheet. Students have made significant progress in confidence, self-esteem, independence and resilience during their time at the ARB.

Where the leavers are heading

The ARB’s leavers are now moving on from Launceston to a mix of further education and vocational courses.

• One student is going to Access Creative College in Plymouth to study IT.
• Two are progressing to Duchy College to study vocational pathways and agriculture.
• Two are moving to St Austell College for foundation learning programmes.

Matthew Thompson, principal at Launceston College, said: “We are incredibly proud of the achievements of our ARB students this year. What makes us most proud, however, is seeing how much our students have grown during their time with us. They have developed greater confidence, independence, resilience and belief in their own abilities, and it has been wonderful to see them take these qualities forward into their next steps.

“We are delighted to see our leavers progressing to a range of further education and vocational pathways, from IT and agriculture to foundation learning. We wish every one of them the very best for the future and are incredibly proud of what they have achieved.”
