Looe RNLI hamper raffle raises £1,639, and the winner lives in Essex
A jute bag stuffed with Cornish cheddar, clotted cream fudge and a bottle of fizz has made its way from Looe to a doorstep in Essex. Getting it there took a whole summer of ticket selling, a concert in a boathouse and a visitor from Durham.

A summer of ticket sales
The fundraising team at Looe RNLI lifeboat station sold tickets for their summer hamper raffle at every one of the station’s events this year, as well as in the station’s RNLI shop.
When the counting was done, the raffle had raised £1,639 for the lifeboat station.
The furthest traveller picks
The draw was made on 22 September, during the last boathouse concert of the season.
An audience member was chosen to make the draw, and the rule for picking them was simple. Whoever had travelled furthest to be in Looe that night got the job. A lady from Durham beat everyone else in the room hands down.
A short break that paid off
The winning ticket belonged to Carole from Dagenham in Essex.
She had been in Looe for a short break in August and came along to one of the station’s concerts while she was in town. Carole was delighted to have won, and the hamper has now reached her.

Who made it happen
The station has thanked everyone who bought a ticket over the summer. Its thanks also go to Penrock Distillery, which loaned a barrel for the draw, and to Purely Cornish, which provided the hamper itself.
