Fashion founder Uzma Bozai takes a seat on Cornwall NHS trust board

Oxfam, NHS communications and a sustainable fashion label built with artisan communities. That is quite a CV to bring into the boardroom of one of Cornwall’s NHS trusts.

Uzma Bozai is the newest non-executive director to join the Board of Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. She will attend her first Board of Directors meeting this month.

Business, charities and the NHS

Uzma brings more than 25 years of experience across entrepreneurship, communications and social impact. Her career includes work in the NGO sector, Oxfam among it, along with campaigning, fundraising and NHS communications.

As a founder and investor, she has built businesses, developed partnerships and turned ideas into action. She founded the sustainable fashion brand Uzma Bozai, which works with artisan communities and charity partners to bring traditional craftsmanship together with positive social change.

The Trust says that spread of experience gives the Board a broader view, combining commercial insight with a commitment to people and communities.

Built from the ground up

Matthew Taylor, Chair of Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, said:

“We are delighted to welcome Uzma to the Board. She has successfully built businesses from the ground up and understands what it takes to lead organisations through growth and change. That experience, combined with her commitment to people and communities, will bring real value to our Board.”

A seat at two tables

Uzma is also a non-executive director at Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust. Her appointment reflects how closely the two Trusts are now working together to improve services.

She said:

“Having lived in Cornwall for 20 years, I care deeply about the communities both Trusts serve. Through my role at RCHT, I have seen the difference that working together can make, and I’m delighted to help strengthen that connection.

“My career has taken me across business, charities and the NHS. Across all three, I’ve valued people who ask questions, bring different perspectives and have the courage to explore better ways of doing things. I look forward to bringing that same curiosity and energy to CFT, listening to staff and the people using our services, and supporting colleagues to turn ideas into improvements in care.”
