St Piran’s Day 2026 Celebrations Confirmed for Penzance
Final preparations and rehearsals are under way for this year’s St Piran’s Day celebrations in Penzance, with events set to take place on 4th and 5th March.
Held annually on 5th March, the celebration comes as Penzance prepares its bid to become the first UK Town of Culture. Organised by St Piran in Penwith for the past 21 years, the event has become a key date in the town’s cultural calendar.
Concert to open celebrations
Ahead of St Piran’s Day itself, a special Cornish Concert will be held at St John’s Hall in Penzance on Wednesday 4th March at 7pm.
The concert will feature a combined choir of schoolchildren from across the Penwith area.
Hundreds of children to dance through the town
On Thursday 5th March, hundreds of local schoolchildren will gather at the top of Causewayhead before setting off at 10.15am to dance the St Piran Furry through the streets of Penzance.
The procession will make its way to Morrab Gardens, where those taking part will join together in a rendition of ‘Trelawny’. From there, accompanied by the Mayor of Penzance and the Town Crier, the parade will continue up Morrab Road to St John’s Hall.
At the hall, the schoolchildren will be given saffron buns.
Mayor of Penzance Stephen Reynolds said:
“As Penzance prepares its bid for UK Town of Culture, it is fitting that the town comes together once again to celebrate community spirit and Cornish culture on St Piran’s Day. Penzance Council are proud to support this joyous event with grant funding again this year and I look forward to joining hundreds of schoolchildren as they parade through the streets. Gool Peran Lowen Onen Hag Oll! Happy St Piran’s Day One And All!”
Grant funding confirmed
St Piran in Penwith has received £1,860 in grant funding from Penzance Council.
The funding will cover the costs of rigging and de-rigging the St Piran town flags, public liability insurance, the hire of St John’s Hall and saffron buns for all participating children, along with other event-related costs.
