Birdwatchers Record 22 Species at Towan Head Event
Connect with Nature’s group enjoyed a successful birdwatching session at Towan Head in Newquay, with a mix of keen observers and an impressive list of sightings.
A busy morning at Towan Head
The event was organised by Rowena Castillo Nicholls, RSPB Kernow Local Group Leader and Publicity Officer for Cornwall Bird Watching and Preservation Society. Rob Nicholls led the fieldtrip. Ten nature and wildlife enthusiasts took part.
They recorded 22 species during the session, including:
7 Black headed Gull, 3 Carrion Crow, 4 Chough, 23 Cormorant, 1 Ferral Pigeon, 2 Fulmar, 27 Gannet, 9 Great Black backed Gull, 1 Great Shearwater, 54 Herring Gull, 18 Jackdaw, 3 Magpie, 14 Oystercatcher, 3 Purple Sandpiper, 1 Robin, 7 Rock Pipit, 8 Starling, 5 Stonechat, 7 Turnstone, 12 Whimbrel, 1 Woodpigeon and 1 Wren.
A relaxed finish
The group rounded off the event with tea, coffee, monde cheese bar and chocolates brought along by Rowena.
