South West Water Offers Free Devices to Help Customers Save Water
South West Water is giving away a range of free water-saving devices to help customers reduce their use and save money this winter. The offer is part of the company’s Come Rain or Shine campaign, which encourages people to be more water aware throughout the year.
Why the company is offering the kits
Recent rainfall has boosted storage levels across the region after what was recorded as the hottest summer on record in the UK. South West Water says reducing water wastage now will help recharge supplies faster ahead of next summer. Lower water use could also reduce energy bills for all customers and water bills for anyone on a meter.
Kim Williams, South West Water’s Head of Water Resources and Water Efficiency, said: “Recent rainfall and our interventions across the region have helped to see our storage levels improve in recent weeks following the hot summer and we’re thanking all our customers who continue to take simple steps to reduce their water use.
“Climate change is showing us that weather patterns are going to be less predictable and put more pressure on our resources due to longer periods of warm, dry weather. That’s why it’s so important we all work together to be more water aware and build more resilience whatever the weather.”
What customers can claim for free
Through the Come Rain or Shine campaign, customers can order several devices designed to cut water use at home. These include:
Buffaloo Cistern Bags
These reduce the amount of water a single-lever toilet releases with each flush. South West Water says a family of four could save almost £100 a year.
LeakyLoo Detection Strips
Biodegradable and water soluble, the strip sticks inside the toilet and shows whether you have a leak. Undetected loo leaks can be invisible and may waste thousands of litres of water a year, adding hundreds of pounds to a metered bill.
Four-minute Shower Timers
According to the company, cutting one minute from a daily shower could save £30 per person each year.
Shower Flow Regulator
Fitted between the shower hose and head, this tool limits water flow to 7 litres per minute to reduce the amount of hot water used.
Leak repairs across the region
South West Water says it is tackling leakage on its own network, repairing more than 16,100 leaks last year and reducing leakage by over 10 million litres a day. The company says around 30% of water loss in the region comes from pipework owned by customers and it is working to help people find these leaks and support repairs.
