Lusty Glaze Toy Amnesty Returns in January to Support Children’s Hospice
Lusty Glaze Beach has confirmed its annual Toy Amnesty will return this January, marking the 8th year the beach has supported families cared for by Children’s Hospice South West.
The event will once again see the beachfront café turned into a drop off point for unwanted or unused children’s toys, games, books, clothes and other children’s items suitable for ages up to 16.
How the Toy Amnesty Works
Throughout January, donations can be taken to Lusty Glaze Beach Café in Newquay. As a thank you, anyone dropping off items will receive a complimentary tea or coffee from the café.
At the end of the month, all donations will be delivered to Children’s Hospice South West. New items will go directly to children currently receiving hospice care, while pre loved items will be passed to CHSW charity shops to help raise additional funds.
Coffee That Gives Back
Lusty Glaze is continuing its partnership with Cornish Coffee, who have donated all the coffee beans for the event, including their Lusty Glaze Roast. This means every cup poured during the Toy Amnesty directly supports CHSW families.
Andi Millson, Operations Manager at Lusty Glaze, said:
“Each January, this feels like the most meaningful way to start the year. We’ve always been overwhelmed by the compassion and generosity of our community and this year we hope to go even further for the families CHSW supports.”
Adam Rickard, Director at Cornish Coffee, added:
“Cornwall is a community that looks after each other. We’re delighted that our Lusty Glaze Roast will help fuel this positive cause. Every cup poured represents another act of kindness for families who truly deserve all the support we can give.”
Why the Donations Matter
Children’s Hospice South West provides specialist respite, palliative, emergency, end of life and bereavement care for babies, children and young people with life limiting conditions across the South West. The charity relies heavily on volunteers, donors and fundraising partners like Lusty Glaze.
Alice Merrett, Area Fundraiser at CHSW, said:
“Every toy, every book, every warm coat helps and each donation goes directly to children and families who rely on our care. Initiatives like Lusty Glaze’s Toy Amnesty and our Christmas tree recycling give people a simple, meaningful way to show they care.”
Christmas Trees Can Help Too
With the festive season coming to an end, Lusty Glaze is also reminding people about CHSW’s Recycle Your Christmas Tree scheme. Real Christmas trees can be collected from homes across the South West, subject to postcode eligibility, and are shredded into woodchip for local parks and clubs. Every donation supports essential care for children and families.
The café at Lusty Glaze Beach opens daily from 09:30, with donations welcome at any time during January.
