Portreath and St Ives crews called out to Hayle overnight

Blue lights lined the Hayle coast for the best part of six hours overnight, long after most of Cornwall had gone to bed.

Called out shortly after 11pm

H.M. Coastguard Portreath Rescue Team were called at approximately 23:15 to assist Devon and Cornwall Police in the Hayle area. It was the team’s 59th call-out logged so far this year.

A lifeboat crew and a second coastguard team join

The Portreath crew worked alongside lifeboat crews from St Ives Lifeboat through the night. They were later joined by Penzance Coastguard Rescue Team, brought in for extra manpower, along with the Coastguard Rescue Crew Vehicle to assist at the rendezvous point.

Stood down before dawn

After several hours on scene, the teams were stood down at approximately 04:45, pending further information. Portreath’s volunteers thanked every agency involved for their assistance and teamwork through the night.
