Camborne Post Office to close as hunt begins for someone to run it
Posting a parcel, collecting cash or sorting a passport in the middle of town is about to get a little harder. The Post Office counter on Commercial Square has been given a closing date, and nobody yet knows what, if anything, will take its place.
Camborne Post Office, inside TG Jones at 9-11 Commercial Square, is due to close on Monday 23 November 2026. In a letter to customers, Post Office Limited says the branch is affected by a restructuring plan announced by TG Jones, its retail partner, under which some of the chain’s stores will close.

A search for someone to run it
The Post Office describes the closure as unplanned, and says keeping a service going in Camborne matters to it. It is in the early stages of reviewing applications to run the branch, and has promised a further update on its plans as soon as possible.
There is a condition attached. The Post Office says any future service has to be sustainable both for the person running it and for Post Office Limited.
Under its own rules for unplanned closures, service in the area is reviewed against current usage, modelling and whether a suitable replacement or alternative is available. The decision on whether to actively look for a replacement is a commercial one and is not put out to public consultation.
Where to go instead
Two nearby branches are named as alternatives. Both offer a similar range of services, with one notable gap. Neither offers Passport Check & Send.
Tehidy Road Post Office, 30 Tehidy Road, Camborne, TR14 8TG, is about 0.4 miles away. It opens 8.30am to 5pm Monday to Friday and 8.30am to midday on Saturday, and is closed on Sunday. There is a wide door and level access via a ramp, or steps with a handrail. Time-restricted parking is available nearby, and local buses serve the area.
Illogan Highway Post Office, Higher Broad Lane, Illogan Highway, Redruth, TR15 3JL, is about 2.8 miles away. It opens 9am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 1pm on Saturday, and is closed on Sunday. It has a wide door and level access via a ramp with a handrail, and parking at the branch includes dedicated disabled spaces. Local buses also serve the area.
Opening hours can change, and the latest details for every branch are on the Post Office branch finder. Questions about which products are available can go to 03457 223344, and the branch postmaster can advise on maximum transaction values.
How to have your say
The Post Office has invited questions and comments through its National Consultation Team, by email to [email protected], through its Post Office Views consultation site, or by post to FREEPOST Your Comments. Comments are not kept confidential unless they are clearly marked “In Confidence”.
The information is also available in other formats, including larger print, audio and braille, by calling 03452 66 01 15 or by Textphone on 03457 22 33 55.
Local representatives have been asked to share the news through community groups, noticeboards and GP surgeries, and the Post Office says it will write to them again once it has news about the future of the service in the town.
