Bugle substation roofs could give way, police warn parents
That grey metal box at the end of the path looks solid enough to climb. Police say it isn’t, and some young people in Bugle have been finding that out the risky way.
St Austell Police have issued a warning after reports of young people playing on electric substations in Bugle.

Why the roof is the danger
The roofs on the substations are made of fibreglass. According to police, the weight of a person standing or walking on top may be enough to make one break.
And what sits underneath is the real worry. The inside of a substation contains live electrical equipment, so anyone who falls through faces a real risk of injury and electrocution.
What parents are being asked to do
The message from officers is aimed squarely at parents and guardians of the young people involved.
They are asking families to take responsibility for knowing where their children are playing, and to discourage them from playing near substations at all.
Officers said: “If you are the parents or guardians of these young people, please take responsibility to know where they are playing and discourage them from playing near sub stations.”
