Arrest and release

A 44-year-old man from Truro was arrested on Tuesday 18 August on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm, administering a noxious substance and theft. He was released from custody the following day, Wednesday 19 August, and Devon and Cornwall police say he is no longer linked to the investigation.

What happened at Moorfield car park

Detectives were called to Moorfield Car Park in Calenick Street at around 10.45am on Monday 17 August, after the body of a man was found on the ground floor. The 41-year-old was from the Truro area. His next of kin are being supported by specialist officers.

The cause of death remains unexplained, and officers say extensive enquiries are continuing to establish exactly what happened. Part of that work involves reviewing CCTV footage to trace the man movements in the days before his death. The police cordon and the car park closure, both in place while forensic teams worked the scene, have now been lifted.

The appeal that remains open

Detective Inspector Jon Bray, the senior investigating officer, confirmed the change in the case. “The man arrested as part of our investigation has today been released without charge and is no longer connected to our enquiries,” Jon said. “Our investigation continues as we work to establish the circumstances surrounding this mans death.”

Jon repeated the force appeal for anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area between the afternoon of Friday 14 August and 10.45am on Monday 17 August to come forward. “We continue to appeal for information from anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in the area,” he said. “We would like to thank the public for their patience and understanding while investigative and forensic work were carried out at the scene this week.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police via the force website or call 101, quoting reference 50260218970.
