Cornish Lithium has awarded £7,549 to four community organisations across Cornwall through its Winter 2025 Community Fund.

The mineral exploration and development company, which is working to pioneer the responsible extraction of lithium from hard rock and geothermal waters in Cornwall, said the funding will support projects within its areas of operation.

Cornish Lithium is focused on securing a domestic supply of lithium for batteries used in smartphones, laptops, electric vehicles and renewable energy storage as part of the UK’s transition to renewable energy.

Who Has Received Funding?

Grants of between £250 and £2,500 have been awarded to:

  • Chacewater Parish Council as Trustees for its Recreation Ground

  • Treviscoe Institute and Community Centre

  • United Downs Environment Group

  • Whitemoor Village Hall

The Cornish Lithium Community Fund supports local clubs, charities and activity groups that aim to make a positive difference. Projects are invited to apply if they upskill and educate, upgrade social welfare facilities, support industrial heritage and mining history, deliver positive environmental impacts or promote health and wellbeing.

Improving Access and Community Spaces

Chacewater Parish Council will use its funding to create a ramp to the village’s Recreation Ground. The new access point is designed to improve connections to public amenities and services, while reducing the need for residents to take longer routes along busy roads.

Treviscoe Institute and Community Centre has received a contribution towards new kitchen units, safety flooring and wall coverings. The upgrades are intended to enhance energy efficiency, encourage larger groups and families to meet, cook and eat together, and attract new users to hire the space.

Whitemoor Village Hall will put its award towards the running costs of a renovated portable building. The space is being used to host a range of leisure activities aimed at encouraging social interaction.

Celebrating Nature and Folklore

United Downs Environment Group has been awarded funding to host a Blossail Day at St Day Community Orchard. The event brings together local residents and school children to dance around the maypole, sing a specially commissioned song, bless the fruit trees and explore the importance of preserving Cornish folklore and sustainable food sources.

Zoe Carter, ESG Lead at Cornish Lithium, said: “The Cornish Lithium Community Fund is proud to support these projects that improve leisure and social welfare facilities, whether to encourage connections with people or nature. We hope these initiatives will benefit many residents in our project areas both now and in the years to come.”

Tamara Sherston-Baker, Development Director at Cornwall Community Foundation, which administers the fund, added: “We are delighted to work with Cornish Lithium to support these vital community projects. This Community Fund demonstrates how responsible businesses can invest meaningfully in the communities where they operate, funding grassroots initiatives that address genuine local needs and strengthen community connections.”

Applications Opening This Summer

The 2026 Cornish Lithium Community Fund will open this summer, with applications invited from communities in Chacewater and Kea, specifically Baldhu, St Dennis, Treviscoe and Whitemoor.

Further details will be announced on the Cornish Lithium and Cornwall Community Foundation websites, with grant recipients due to be announced in the autumn.
