RSPCA Cornwall Opens Summer Club Bookings for 8 to 11 Year Olds

Six weeks of school holidays can feel longer than the school year itself, especially if the weather turns. RSPCA Cornwall reckons it has an answer for parents of 8 to 11 year olds who would rather see their children out in the fresh air than glued to a screen.

The charity has opened bookings for its 2026 Summer Club, running Monday to Friday from 27th July through to 3rd September at its animal centre near St Columb. Sessions run from 9am to 3pm and cover wildlife-themed activities, games, crafts and nature exploration, including time spent in the centre’s wildlife garden.

What children will be doing

Poppy Pudner, Events and Activities Lead at RSPCA Cornwall Branch, said the programme is built around hands-on discovery.

“Summer Club is all about giving children the opportunity to explore nature and have fun during the school holidays. We know that many children have a natural interest in animals and wildlife, and these sessions help nurture that curiosity through hands-on activities, creativity and discovery,” she said.

“Whether children are creating hotels for mini beasts, exploring nature-inspired crafts, learning about local wildlife, or simply enjoying time with new friends, every day offers something different.”

Poppy added that the sessions are also a way in to bigger ideas about animal welfare and conservation.

“It is also a wonderful way to introduce young people to the importance of caring for animals, wildlife and the environment around them. These experiences can help inspire the next generation of compassionate animal lovers and conservation champions.”

Where the money goes

The Summer Club is based at RSPCA Cornwall’s self-funded animal centre, and every place booked feeds back into the charity’s wider work.

RSPCA Cornwall Branch is a separately registered local charity that rehabilitates and rehomes dogs and cats from across the county. It receives very limited funding from the national RSPCA and relies on the generosity of the local community to keep going. Money raised in Cornwall stays in Cornwall.

“By taking part in Summer Club, children are not only enjoying a fantastic holiday experience, they are helping local animals too. Every place booked helps support our work here in Cornwall, ensuring we can continue providing care, rehabilitation and second chances to animals who need us most,” Poppy said.

Full session information and booking are available on the RSPCA Cornwall Summer Club page.
