Lift Legend is back, and Devon and Cornwall Police wants 300 venues

Every Christmas night out has one person who sticks to lemonade so everyone else gets home. This December, pubs and bars across Cornwall and Devon can give that person a free drink, but they only have a few days left to sign up.

Devon and Cornwall Police is asking venues to join Lift Legend, its drink drive campaign. It’s back this year and runs throughout December. Venues need to sign up by this Sunday (8 November).

How Lift Legend works

Partner venues promise to reward designated drivers with a free soft drink. A driver who buys a soft drink at a participating venue gets a voucher, and their second drink is free.

The aim is to get people home safely over the festive season. Drink and drug driving is one of the “fatal five” causes of serious injuries and deaths on the roads, and Christmas is when designated drivers matter most.

Going for 300

Last year was the biggest Lift Legend campaign yet. More than 270 venues across Devon and Cornwall took part, and the campaign’s posters, stickers, beer mats and social media posts were everywhere.

This year the police want more venues and more locations on board, and they’ve set a target of passing 300.

What venues get

Venues that take part get a set of free Lift Legend merchandise to display:

• Posters and flyers
• Stickers, including venue door stickers
• Shelf wobblers
• Vouchers for designated drivers

Each venue is also named online and on social media, which recognises its part in getting friends, relatives and colleagues home safely. The campaign is run with Vision Zero South West, and you can read more about last year’s Lift Legend campaign on its website.

How to sign up

Pubs, bars and other venues can sign up for the 2026 Lift Legend campaign using the online form. The deadline is Sunday 8 November.

The vouchers start being handed out in December.
