Looe’s Barbican Road could get a Tesco and 90 affordable homes

Around 740 homes in Looe are about to find a leaflet on the doormat, and it sets out plans that could change where a lot of the town does its weekly shop.

Developers have launched a public consultation on proposals for a new Tesco supermarket and 90 affordable homes on land east of Barbican Road. Looe Town Council has flagged the consultation so residents know it is running and how to take part.

What is being proposed

The scheme pairs a Tesco store with 90 affordable homes on a single site to the east of Barbican Road.

The developers say information leaflets are going out to around 740 nearby addresses. A dedicated Barbican Road consultation website has also been set up with more detail on the proposals and an online feedback form.

What the site plan shows

The proposed layout puts the supermarket, marked at 25,000 sq ft, near the road frontage with a delivery yard behind it and a car park labelled at 137 spaces.

The homes sit on a looping network of streets across the rest of the site. Attenuation basins are marked in several spots, and a large area to the east is set aside as public open space.

How to have your say

Residents can read the plans and leave feedback on the consultation website.

Drop-in event at The Millpool

A public consultation event is being held on Wednesday 18 November from 3pm to 7pm at The Millpool in West Looe.

It is a drop-in session, so people can arrive at any point in those four hours to look over the proposals and speak to members of the project team.
