Get Ready for a Creative Summer with Cornwall Libraries

In just one week, the highly anticipated Summer Reading Challenge, “Marvellous Makers,” kicks off at Cornwall Libraries. Starting on 6th July, this year’s theme is all about creativity, inviting children aged 4 to 11 to dive into a summer full of reading and making. The challenge, organised by The Reading Agency in partnership with CREATE, offers a fantastic opportunity for young readers to enhance their skills and confidence through a range of engaging activities.

How to Take Part

Participating in the Summer Reading Challenge is simple and free. Here’s how you can get involved:

  1. Get Ready! Visit your local library from 6th July to sign up and collect your Summer Reading Challenge pack.
  2. The Challenge Begins! Read six books over the summer. This can include any type of reading material that sparks your interest – books, audiobooks, comics, and non-fiction all count.
  3. Collect Your Bounty! After reading your first two books, visit the library to share your reading experience with a volunteer and receive your first prize. Continue reading and collect additional prizes after your fourth and sixth books.

Mini Challenge for Under 4s

For younger children under the age of four, Cornwall Libraries offers a mini challenge. These little ones can enjoy a book with a parent or carer or engage in various creative play activities. As they progress, they can collect stamps in their mini-booklet, adding a fun and rewarding aspect to their reading journey.

Exciting Activities All Summer Long

Throughout the summer, libraries across Cornwall will host a range of related activities. Whether it’s making models, music, art, or stories, there will be something for every young creative mind. To find out what’s happening near you, check with your local library and stay updated by following Cornwall Libraries on social media @CornwallLibraries.

Don’t miss out on this exciting opportunity to foster a love for reading and creativity in your children. Mark your calendars for 6th July and get ready to embark on a marvellous summer adventure with Cornwall Libraries!
