Cornwall Air Ambulance Responds to 483 Missions in First Half of 2025
Cornwall Air Ambulance was called to 483 missions in the first half of 2025, according to new figures from the charity.
The statistics, covering the period from 1st January to 30th June, reveal the scope of emergencies crews attended across the county.
Breakdown of Emergencies
Out of the 483 missions, 206 were trauma incidents and 149 were medical-related. Crews also responded to 116 cardiac arrests and carried out 12 inter-hospital transfers.
Specific incidents included:
-
50 road traffic collisions
-
25 falls from height
-
19 sports and adventure call-outs
-
9 agricultural-related incidents
The busiest month was May, with 97 taskings, followed by June with 95.
Second Helicopter Joins the Fleet
The release of these figures comes as the charity welcomed its second AW169 helicopter at the start of July. After a ‘shakedown’ period of test flights, the new aircraft entered operational service on 5th August 2025.
Mick McLachlan, Lead Specialist Paramedic in Critical Care, said:
“It has been a steady start to the year in terms of mission numbers, and as we now head into the busiest summer months, we have the resilience of a second aircraft. The increase in taskings we see over the school holidays each year adds additional wear-and-tear to the helicopter, so we’re delighted to now have an additional AW169 ready and available on base all year round to be in rotation for our missions.”
Funding the Lifesaving Service
Cornwall Air Ambulance needs to raise over £8 million in 2025 to keep the service running. The charity receives no direct government funding, relying on the support of individuals, communities, and businesses.
