Three in every ten GCSE grades awarded at Falmouth School this year came back as a 7 or higher, and one in five students collected at least one Grade 9. It is, the school says, one of its strongest results in years, and part of a run of year-on-year improvement.

Five years in the making

Behind the numbers are five years of work from students, the school says, backed by staff who consistently encouraged them to aim high and families who stayed alongside them through the whole of secondary school. Results day itself brought students, families and staff together to mark the end of that journey and look at what comes next.

Across the cohort there were, in the school’s words, wonderful individual success stories, from a clean sweep of Grade 9s for some to results that represented real personal achievement, resilience and progress for others.

Clean sweeps of Grade 9s

Flo Jubb topped the school’s results with eight Grade 9s, including a double Grade 9 in Combined Science alongside further 9s in English Literature, French, Geography, History, Maths and Statistics.

Lyla Collins was close behind with six Grade 9s, in Chemistry, English Literature, French, History, Maths and Physics, on top of outstanding results across her other subjects. Ennis Masterton also achieved six Grade 9s, in Biology, Chemistry, Further Maths, Geography, Maths and Physics, as part of what the school called an exceptional set of results.

‘A wonderful reflection of our students’ ambition’

Headteacher Joanne Guest said the school was proud of the whole of Year 11. “We are incredibly proud of our Year 11 students and everything they have achieved. Our results continue to improve year on year, with this year representing some of our strongest outcomes in recent years. That is a wonderful reflection of our students’ ambition and determination.

“It is also testament to our staff, who care deeply about our young people and work tirelessly to help them succeed, and to the support of our families. This really is a community achievement.

“Today, though, belongs to our amazing students. Whether they are celebrating a collection of the very highest grades or results that have required enormous personal determination to achieve, I hope every one of them feels incredibly proud of themselves,” she said.

What’s next for the Class of 2026

For many families across Falmouth, results day was as much about the next step as the grades themselves. Many students are staying on at Falmouth VI Form to study A Levels, continuing within the same school community. Others are moving on to college, apprenticeships, training and employment.

Flo Jubb said: “I’m really happy with my results. I’ve worked hard for them and the teachers at Falmouth have been amazing, they really do make a difference. I’m now really excited to start the International Baccalaureate at Truro College.”

Her mum, Eleanor, said: “Flo is delighted with her GCSE results and we are incredibly proud of her. She has had a brilliant time at Falmouth School, with wonderful friends and teachers, and is really excited to start the International Baccalaureate at Truro College. We would like to thank everyone at Falmouth School for all the kindness and support they have given her over the last five years.”

Ennis Masterton said: “It didn’t come easily, so I’m incredibly pleased with my results. It’s hard to put into words how it feels to see all of that hard work pay off.”

Lyla Collins’s mum, Claire, said: “We are incredibly proud of Lyla and everything she has achieved. There is definitely a sense of relief after all the hard work, but most of all we are just so proud to see that determination rewarded. She is really excited about taking the next step.”

‘Every student has their own reason to feel proud’

Lauren Miller, Learning Leader for Year 11, praised the whole year group. “I’m incredibly proud of every one of our Year 11 students,” she said. “They have shown so much determination, ambition and resilience throughout their time with us, and it has been wonderful to see them celebrating the result of all that hard work today.

“What makes this year group so special is that there are so many different success stories, and every student has their own reason to feel proud. A huge thank you must also go to our staff and families for everything they have done to support them. We wish all of our students every success in their next steps, and look forward to welcoming many of them back to continue their journey with us at Falmouth VI Form.”

Falmouth School has thanked staff, parents, carers and the wider community for everything they have done to support the Class of 2026. For Ennis Masterton, it comes down to something simpler: hard work that, in the end, paid off.
