Portloe’s Ship Inn Set to Reopen as Community-Owned Pub This December
Portloe’s Ship Inn is set to reopen its doors in time for Christmas and New Year after what has been described as a mammoth community effort.
A Village Pulls Together
The pub will relaunch as a community-owned venue following months of work by residents, supporters and the newly formed Portloe Community Benefit Society, known as PCBS.
The group now has 181 shareholders and has raised more than half a million pounds to buy the historic inn. Their success followed an offer being accepted by St Austell Brewery, who put the building up for sale in December 2024.
The Ship Inn began life in the 17th century as a fisherman’s cottage before becoming a pub around the early 1900s. It has long been described as a vital hub for strengthening community life in the village.
Funding And Support
The effort is part-funded by the UK Government’s Community Capacity Fund. PCBS has also thanked its other partners, which include Plunkett UK, Veryan Parish Council and The CHAOS Group.
Countdown To Reopening
A temporary manager and deputy are now in place as the finishing touches are made ahead of the reopening on Monday, 8th December 2025.
PCBS says it welcomes everyone to join the celebrations and continue supporting the future of The Ship Inn.
