Looe RNLI Volunteers Featured in Creative Looe’s Twelfth Day of Fishmas
Twelve volunteers from RNLI Looe Lifeboat Station have been chosen to represent the “Twelfth day of Fishmas” as part of Creative Looe’s 12 Days of Fishmas celebration calendar.
Twelve Crew for the Twelfth Day
The group features six boat crew and six shore crew, making up the twelve lifeboat volunteers marking the final day of Fishmas. They were photographed in the Looe RNLI boathouse, with the station’s Atlantic 85 inshore lifeboat Sheila and Dennis Tongue II in the background.
The volunteers joined colleagues from the Blue Light services along with local groups and organisations taking part in the Creative Looe “United by the Sea – Heroes of Looe” 2026 calendar, which celebrates the 12 days of Christmas through people connected to the town.
Familiar Faces Across the Calendar
Three RNLI volunteers also appear elsewhere in the calendar. Former Lifeboat Operations Manager Dave Haines features in the June image alongside fellow ferrymen.
Two members of the lifeboat crew are included in the July photograph representing Looe Rowing Club’s Men’s A crew. Volunteer helm Dan Margetts is a member of the Men’s A crew that first won the World Gig Championships in 2018. Nathaniel Rothwell went on to row in every Men’s A team that has successfully retained the championship since then. Nathaniel was also part of the Oars of Thunder team that rowed the Atlantic Ocean in the World’s Toughest Row this time last year.
Creative Looe and Fishmas
Creative Looe’s “United by the Sea” project focuses on supporting creative projects for young people in the town, helping them feel a stronger sense of belonging while connecting with Looe’s culture and history. The organisation works with local artists and community groups to showcase the town’s youth.
Creative Looe has begun releasing its Cornish language version of the Fishmas song verse by verse. On Christmas Day, the full-length film will be unveiled, with the aim that people will know the song in both English and Kernewek.
Where to Buy the Calendar
The 2026 calendar costs £8.50 and is available from both Co-op stores in Looe, The Guildhall Market, and Looe Library. All proceeds from calendar sales are returned to the community by Creative Looe CIC to help fund creative activity in the town.
