£3m Boost: Is Cornwall’s Fire Service Ready for the Next Crisis?

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service has launched a new four-year plan setting out how it will protect communities, residents and visitors across the county through to 2030.

The Community Risk Management Plan (CRMP) 2026-2030 was shaped in part by public consultation and is built around the service’s core purpose: Serving Cornwall – Preventing, Protecting, Responding.

£3 Million Investment

Cornwall Council is providing an additional £3 million this financial year to improve and modernise the service. The funding will cover training, additional resources for home fire prevention, and support for businesses adapting to new legislation following The Grenfell Tower Inquiry.

Over the next four years, the service plans to update its vehicles, equipment and IT systems, as well as making improvements to community fire stations across Cornwall.

What the Plan Covers

The CRMP reflects the changing risks facing Cornwall and the unique challenges the service faces operating across a county that includes a long coastline, rural landscapes, and growing urban centres. It sets out how the service intends to adapt to keep communities safe both now and in the future.

Chief Fire Officer Kathryn Billing said: “This plan sets the direction for the next four years, one that is ambitious, responsible and community focused. I am confident that, together, we will continue to make Cornwall safer for one and all.

“We remain focused on reducing risk and safeguarding Cornwall’s communities through targeted prevention, protection and emergency response activities. By improving our understanding of local risks and strengthening collaboration with partners, we will ensure that we are ready and able to meet the challenges ahead.”
