Family pay tribute to Jenny Firth, 81, who died near Helston

For more than 25 years, Jenny Firth was the woman who brought the post to doors across Ashton. For more than 60, the village was simply her home.

A woman who died near Helston has been named by police, and her family have paid tribute to her.

Jenny Firth, 81, from Ashton, was described by her family as a fun-loving and charismatic woman who gave herself to her family and her community.

‘Our beautiful mum and granny’

In a tribute, the family said: “Our family is utterly devastated by the sudden and tragic loss of our beautiful mum and granny.

“She was an incredibly fun-loving, mischievous and charismatic lady who brought great joy into the lives of everyone who knew her. Jenny dedicated herself to her family and her community, having served them as the village post lady for over 25 years.”

The family said Jenny loved Cornwall, her home, her garden and Ashton village, where she had lived for more than 60 years. They said the village loved her back, and that her death had a profound and far-reaching impact across the community.

“We refuse to let her death overshadow the beautiful life she lived,” they said. “We are fully determined to focus on her legacy and honour her through a lifetime of joyful, positive memories.”

The family described Jenny as an elderly and vulnerable lady and said they were heartbroken by her death. They asked for their privacy, and that of the local community, to be respected so they could grieve.

Charged with rape and murder

Edward Holden, 36, of Alexandra Place, Penzance, appeared at Truro Crown Court on Tuesday 2nd June charged with rape and murder.

Edward was remanded in custody and is due to stand trial in November.

The charges relate to an incident at an address in the Ashton area, near Helston, which was reported to police on Friday 29th May.
