Newquay Town Council backs Beyond Boardmasters campaign

When Boardmasters rolls into Newquay from 5 to 9 August, the crowds tend to pull focus. Newquay Town Council wants to widen the lens. It is throwing its weight behind Newquay BID’s Beyond Boardmasters campaign, a push to remind residents, visitors and businesses that the town stays open, welcoming and worth exploring right through one of the busiest weeks of its year.

Why the council is getting involved

Festival week is a lot to hold together. Thousands of extra people, roads under pressure, and a town centre carrying on around it all. By backing Beyond Boardmasters, the council is helping pull the practical information into one place: visitor information, local events, travel updates, business promotions and community notices, all under a single banner.

The message the council keeps returning to is that Newquay is more than the festival fields. The crowd that comes for Boardmasters is also a chance to show off the town’s independent businesses, its attractions, its hospitality venues and the coast wrapped around it.

Anyone looking for somewhere to eat, drink, shop or explore can find local businesses through Love Newquay, while special offers from firms across the town are gathered on the dedicated Beyond Boardmasters business offers site. For days out further afield, Visit Newquay covers attractions, activities and beaches across the wider area.

A garden party the council helped bring in

As part of this year’s programme, Newquay Town Council and Newquay BID have partnered with local events company WAX to run the WAX Garden Party on the Killacourt from 5 to 9 August.

It is free to attend and open to everyone. Sitting between the two Boardmasters sites, it ties them back to the town centre, with live entertainment, activities, street food and open-air bars through the week.

Keeping the town moving

The council is also using the campaign to get practical travel information in front of people before the roads fill up. The getting-around guide covers road closures, traffic management, parking, public transport and shuttle bus services, with a steer to plan ahead where possible.

The alternatives to driving into the thick of it include:

• Newquay Park and Ride
• Dedicated Boardmasters shuttle buses
• Local bus services
• Rail connections into Newquay

And there is a reminder from the council that the temporary restrictions do not close the town down. Businesses at Fistral, Porth, Watergate Bay and across the wider area stay open all week, with access kept in place despite the traffic measures.

Working with the partners

The council is not doing this alone. It is working alongside Newquay BID, Boardmasters and a range of local partners to make the campaign a single source of information on travel, local services, community support, safety and events across the town.
