GCSE results day joy for Pool Academy’s top achievers
Envelopes were torn open, phones came out for photos, and there were more than a few hugs on the grass outside Pool Academy this morning as students collected their GCSE results. For plenty of them, it was the moment years of revision, mock exams and early starts finally paid off.

The stand-out grades
Two names led the way. Joel and Ethan both walked away with four Grade 9s apiece, the highest mark available, alongside a clutch of Grade 8s and Distinctions. Jake and Alex were close behind with three Grade 9s each, again backed up by further Grade 8s and Distinctions. Amelia and Hannah each picked up two Grade 9s, along with a strong spread of Grade 8s and Distinctions of their own.
They were far from alone. Across the school in Pool, students are spending today reflecting on years of hard work, with staff on hand throughout to mark the occasion.
More than exam results
The school points to a year that has stretched well beyond the classroom. Pool Academy launched its “Pool Academy +Plus” programme, adding a new Samba Band, a “Starbooks” reading café and student-led sports initiatives that have since been recognised nationally by the Youth Sport Trust.
Students have also thrown themselves into fundraising, including a push for Comic Relief and preparations for an upcoming expedition to Kenya, while others have engaged directly with civic leaders including Perran Moon MP on national issues.
What the Principal said
Nick Ward, Principal at Pool Academy, said the day was a chance to recognise every student’s achievements.
“Today is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the achievements of every one of our students and recognise the determination they have shown throughout their time at Pool Academy. We are incredibly proud of everything they have accomplished, both in the classroom and beyond,” he said.
“These results reflect not only the hard work of our students, but also the commitment of our staff and the invaluable support of families, who have encouraged them every step of the way. As they move on to sixth form, college, apprenticeships or employment, they do so with the knowledge, confidence and character to succeed. We wish every one of them the very best as they take this exciting next step.”
