Cornwall’s Veterans Regroup up for national Soldiering On award

A Cornwall charity that has quietly built a network of drop-in support points for the Armed Forces community, from Helston to Launceston, is heading to London this autumn in the running for a national award.

A finalist in the Working Together Award

Veterans Regroup CIC has been named a finalist in the national Soldiering On Awards 2026, which recognise outstanding achievement and contribution across the UK Armed Forces community. The Cornwall-based Community Interest Company has been shortlisted for the Working Together Award, run in partnership with the Forces in Mind Trust, which recognises a group, team or organisation with an enduring commitment to collaboration in support of the wider Armed Forces community. Veterans Regroup is one of just three national finalists in the category.

The winners will be announced at the Armed Forces Community Awards at the Soldiering On Awards Night at Park Plaza Westminster Bridge in London on Thursday 17 September 2026, bringing together individuals and organisations from across the UK Armed Forces community.

A hub network built on partnership

At the heart of Veterans Regroup's work is its growing network of multi-agency Armed Forces Hubs across Cornwall, currently running in Helston, Liskeard, Penryn, Newquay, Launceston, Redruth and Penzance, with a new hub launching in Torpoint in September and another in Truro later this year.

The hubs bring together military charities and CICs, local authorities, NHS and health services, and military establishments within local communities, giving members of the Armed Forces community somewhere welcoming and accessible to get advice, support, guidance and advocacy across a wide range of needs. That support stretches from transitioning out of military life to health and wellbeing, dental care, housing, employment and financial matters, with direct access and referrals to specialist services where they are needed.

The hubs run on what Veterans Regroup calls a 'No Wrong Door' approach, meant to stop members of the Armed Forces community being passed unnecessarily between services or falling through gaps in provision.

Beyond the hubs

Alongside its Armed Forces Hubs, Veterans Regroup provides welfare support, outreach and a wide range of wellbeing events and activities. These give veterans the chance to connect with others, reduce social isolation, improve wellbeing, build confidence and enjoy camaraderie in relaxed and supportive settings.

Established in 2009, now part of a national programme

Veterans Regroup CIC was established in 2009 and supports veterans, serving personnel, reservists and their families across Cornwall. It has also recently been selected as a delivery partner for the Ministry of Defence's VALOUR programme in the county, working as part of a consortium led by Improving Lives Plymouth. VALOUR is a new UK-wide approach designed to improve veterans' access to joined-up support and services, and through it Veterans Regroup will help strengthen the coordination and accessibility of support for veterans across Cornwall.

Cornwall will find out on 17 September whether the Working Together Award is heading back down the A30 with them.
