If you have heard engines revving and tyres squealing around Treleigh Industrial Estate in Redruth, you were not the only one. Enough people picked up the phone that officers went to take a look, and found a crowd waiting for them.

What officers found at Treleigh

Camborne, Pool and Redruth Police say numerous reports of anti-social driving on the estate led its Roads Policing officers to attend. When they arrived, they found a large number of vehicles gathered there.

Officers issued multiple tickets for insurance offences. One vehicle was seized.

The tyre police chose to share

Alongside the update, the team shared a photo of a defective tyre found on one of the vehicles, and said it was just one example.

Police warned that drifting and other reckless manoeuvres can put significant strain on tyres, raising the risk of serious defects and putting everyone around the car at risk.

What the rules say

For anyone tempted to join the next gathering, police set out the basics every driver is expected to meet:

  • Your vehicle must be properly insured and roadworthy before it is used on the road.
  • Tyres must have a minimum legal tread depth of 1.6mm across the central three quarters of the tyre, all the way around its circumference.
  • Tyres must also be free from dangerous defects.

Drifting and similar manoeuvres can cause a driver to lose control, damage the vehicle and put other people at risk, police added.

What you could face

Anyone involved in anti-social driving could face fines, penalty points, prosecution and, in some circumstances, having their vehicle seized.

“What might seem like fun can quickly result in serious injury, significant damage or worse,” the team said.

More to come

Officers thanked everyone who has taken the time to report concerns. And the estate may not have seen the last of them.

“We have more action planned over the coming months,” the team said.
