If you are planning to be out and about on Tuesday, pack a layer for the wind rather than the rain. The South West gets a bright, breezy start to the week, with long sunny spells breaking up patchy cloud and a northeasterly breeze that bites harder down on the south coast. Here is how the regional weather forecast covering Cornwall shapes up through to the weekend.

Today, Tuesday 3 November

Patchy cloud and long sunny spells, and it stays dry throughout. The catch is a fresh northeasterly breeze, stronger along the southern coastlines, so it will feel cooler than the 13°C high when the wind finds you. Temperatures are around average for the time of year.

Tonight

Clear spells let the temperature fall away, down to a chilly 3°C, with mist and fog patches forming in prone locations. The breeze hangs on along the south coast. Worth a thought for anyone on an early drive, as those fog patches can settle in the dips.

Wednesday 4 November

A bright start once any early mist and fog clear, then it turns cloudier from the east through the day, with perhaps the odd light shower later on. The breeze swings round to a moderate easterly, again stronger along the southern coasts. The high eases back a touch to 12°C.

Thursday to Saturday

Thursday, which is Bonfire Night, brings a scattering of light showers, so anyone heading to a display will want to keep half an eye on the sky. After that the pattern settles. The rest of the week stays largely dry and settled, with more cloud around than sunshine and a cooler feel taking hold. A quiet end to the week, with the chill the main thing to notice.
